Description and Contents:

As an academic person, when you start to think about a new position, you’ll probably focus on the organizations you already know about. The organizations you have worked with before or cooperated with in the past are a logical place to begin.

But if you can muster the discipline to articulate specific areas of interest that you care about, you will find that these can provide an abundance of new ideas for employment opportunities. Networking interviews, performed congruently, will support you in building on the one most important thing that you have in common with the active professionals in your targeted field: a shared interest in creating positive results. Informal networking can uncover surprising connections and opportunities: often in roles or even in organizations that you currently know nothing about.

For you, interest-based networking offers maximum flexibility ("When do I do my networking?“ „With whom?“ „For how long?” “What should I say?”) At the same time, you will always be operating within the secure framework of a structured methodology.

Workshop Plan:

Day 1              *    Networking Pre-requisites: From “me“ to “us”

                        *   Generating possibilities: Case Examples / Pitfalls

                        *    Robust Logistics: The confident Approach & The simple 4-part Structure

Day 2              *   Field Interviews

                        *   Documenting your Results - Staying in Contact

                        *   Expanding from 4 to 6

                        *   Campaign Sub-Phases

Attention please:

The smaller part of this workshop consists of the facilitator presenting content. In the important part, you will be engaging in learning sequences, where you talk to others about yourself, giving and receiving feedback.

This will necessitate

  • two hours of preparation in the days before the workshop,
  • a half-hour of preparation after the first day, and
  • full participation during the two days.

If you don’t have the time to prepare, or if you know that you can’t be there for the full time, then you would probably be happier with a different kind of workshop.
